Maya graduated summa cum laude from Bates College in 2021, where she earned her BA in Psychology with a concentration in Public Health. At the Recovery Research Institute, Maya currently leads the NIH-funded R24 Phoenix study, which investigates the clinical and public health utility of a novel physical activity-oriented addiction recovery support service, in addition to coordinating the RRI’s partnership with the Opioid Response Network, which is funded by SAMHSA’s State Opioid Response/Tribal Opioid Response TA 2022-2024 grant. Maya also works on the NIH-NIAA-funded R01 SMART study, which investigates the recovery pathways of individuals beginning a new alcohol recovery attempt. She is interested in how substance use disorders impact mental and physical health across an individuals’ lifespan, how we can improve outcomes for individuals with a substance use disorder, and the integration of harm reduction services into public policy. She plans to pursue a PhD in Health Psychology or Social Psychology.
